Response to the Russian invasion of Ukraine

We paused after our last blog entry on Digital Dostoevsky in response to the Russian invasion of Ukraine and its devastating consequences. As Dostoevsky scholars we have been reflecting on our field together with other Russianists and Slavists and considering a way forward that will be more critical towards the accepted paradigms of our discipline. As President and Vice-President of the North American Dostoevsky Society, Katia and I drafted a statement in support of Ukraine, which we feel also applies in all other areas of our work. After consultation with the other team members, we post it here:

One of the main goals of the Digital Dostoevsky project is to interrogate the language and ideas of Dostoevsky on multiple levels, including ideological ones. We will continue our project while recognizing the changed circumstances of our field and the innumerable effects of the war on the people of Ukraine, our colleagues, friends, and family members.
